Future Stuff ::1:: Been Up All Night

[This was not clicking for some reason. He has been staring at these reports for the past hour and half, nothing having been accomplished besides from papers being shuffled around in a semblance of productivity and knives thrown into the pillar behind him out of sheer frustration. His fingers tapping along the worn metal to keep himself from doing further property damage at this rate.

The bottom line was that stress was gnawing at him.

Not from the job though. If anything, reports should came as second nature after the past few months and coordinating had been relatively easy once the rough first week passed by. Being a vanguard should cause less stress than doing actually fieldwork yet here he was at a breaking point almost.

There was nothing. Absolutely nothing. Those stupid letters and photos and other bullshit weren't coming in anymore.

Something had to have happened and he's stuck here in this goddamn tower like a fresh rezzed moron.

His hands were effectively tied as well. No one could be sent out without the other two's approval and even then it'd be brought forward to discussion by the head vanguard. Which means that nothing could happen for days and he'll be sitting on his ass like he already was. All it did was make him all the more frustrated about having given up his freedom to leave as he so pleased because at least then someone would be out there trying to figure out what happened.

The hunter buries his face in his hands with an exhausted sigh leaving him. He probably looked like hell at this rate. Throwing himself into long hours had made his sleep schedule an abysmal handful of hours in the past few days. Half the time he didn't know how he wasn't passing out during meetings. Be easy to. Pull the hood further down, lean down on the table and maybe get an hour or two of on and off rest. Might be the best time to try it out to be quite honest since the hall was dead before attempting it when there'd be actual repercussions to getting caught.

He grunts after stretching out on the table some, pillowing his head with his arms for something close to comfortable. Shade is called out of transmat to keep a watch on things while an attempt at a nap was made. The ghost whirling softly in concern but does as told.

Things suck. Might as well try to ignore it for the time being.]

[Oh, but those are some rather touching words, and it strikes something warm in him.]

Never have to fight anyone, promise, because there's never gonna be anyone else.

Never have I heard more titan-esque words in my life.

Though it doesn't have to people. I don't think you'd ever do such a thing neither would I. Fight against the darkness from trying to end you. Fight anything really. I'd do that to keep you around as long as I can.

[Oh. Oh that strikes something even deeper, and he curls further around James, pressing a kiss to his shoulder with a low noise.]

Promise I'm not going anywhere. Ever. The darkness itself can kiss my ass, not letting it rip me away from you.

[His hold on him tightens and he's remaining as close as he can, lining soft kisses along his pulse with a content hum. He should've expected an answer like that but still happy to hear it.]

Good. Really good.

Like it would be anything different.

[Good, that hold is exactly what he wants, and even in the wake of being a bit winded, he still wouldn't miss this for the world.]

Well I would hope not.

[At some point he was going to have to sneak away to attempt some paperwork but right now wasn't a good time. More than content to stay here.]

Did you check in with the host while out?

Ehhhh, I mean....they're big kids, they can deal with me not being around for a day or two. Or four. Or more.

[Which of course is the easy way of sidestepping the question and not having to admit that he's been negligent with his work.]

[That was probably the most unsubtle and drawn out no that he's gotten as an answer in a while. However it wasn't his place to poke and prod about the Host. He may be a Vanguard but he didn't have the exact authority to get his hands into those matters let alone he respected whatever Liam decided to make as a call.]

Fair enough. Whatever you think is best.

I mean, it is what it is. Like...should...probably check up on 'em at some point, figure out what our next assignment is but-

[He goes quiet for a moment, frowning slightly at the thought.]

Just don't want to get sent out real quick again, yeah?

That's just something that we'll have to deal with. Can't exactly stop doing our jobs especially when there's people counting on us.

[That's certainly something to keep in mind though. The fact that this vacation or whatever it is can be cut short by new orders didn't bring a smile to his face. However he gives the titan a soft kiss before moving to sit back up, dropping his hold.]

I'll still be here though at least.

[There's a noise of discontent as he's moved, and even more discontent as the hunter sits, and he moves to follow him, leaning against his shoulder with a sigh.]

Should come with sometime. Like I said, teach my boys a thing or two.

[A soft sigh leaves him as he settles to rest his head on top of Liam's gently, mulling that over for a moment or two.]

I'll see what I can do. If there's enough time between now and your next assignment, maybe then. Sound like a plan?

Yeah.

[It makes things a bit more sullen, and he's not certain that he likes that. Guardian life isn't at all conducive to allowing time with loved ones, after all, and that's a pretty shitty reality.

Still, he grins anyways, though it might be a bit more subdued than before, and reaches over to lace their fingers together.]

Totally a plan. And if not, then I'm just gonna have to kill everything out there fast and punch the darkness in the face quick so that I'm back home before you even notice I'm gone.

[Their lives may not exactly promote the whole enjoyment of time with each other but that doesn't mean that it needs to bring down the mood. Bad enough that the past month was shitty enough to last them for a while.

So he moves in order to steal a soft, reassuring kiss before giving his hand a squeeze.]

I'll try my best to get the paperwork and planning settled out then. That whole killing thing would go faster if I was there anyway.

[Humming contently, the hunter presses his forehead to the titan's gently.]

[The kiss and contact help ground him, and he can't help the small grin that tugs at the corners of his lips.]

I mean, it really would. I kinda learned from the best, after all.

Pft I'm not the best. Maybe one of them but not the end all, be all.

[However the compliment is appreciated and earns a smile from him.]

I'll give my best effort to get the appropriate approval.

Nope, can't argue. Definitely the best, and I'll fight anyone that says otherwise. That includes you. But maybe I'll go easy on you.

[He leans in to steal a quick kiss with the beginnings of a grin.]

Hm I could definitely be alright with being the best for you. But I would destroy you in a fight. So you might as well put in your entire effort rather than half-assing it.

[A small kiss on the cheek before getting up and grabbing his clothes, at the very least sliding on things onto his lower half after getting cleaned up some.]

Probably should let me change the sheets. Knock out some small chores and whatnot.

Hey, give me some credit, I'm pretty good.

[He rolls his eyes good naturedly, but moves to sit up and stretch sparing a glance to the mess.]

Hey I got it. Go relax or something, promise.

Fine, I'll give that you're pretty good in a couple things. I don't know if beating me in a fight is one of them.

[It's a gentle tease really since he knows fully well that right now the titan had more practice than he had in the last month alone. Being a vanguard had its perks but being able to train without some kind of scheduling issue wasn't one of them sometimes.]

You sure? I mean alright if you say so. I'll be downstairs when you need me.

[He moves in close to steal a soft yet drawn out kiss from him before heading off downstairs, rubbing the back of his neck as he tries to figure out what exactly he should do in the meantime. Honestly there wasn't too much to do besides from reports. There's a soft sigh as the hunter heads over to the back room to flop onto the couch and starts pulling up the necessary maps, papers and data streaming on tacpads.

Might as well be somewhat productive.]

Gives me a goal to work for then, yeah? Gonna beat you at least once. Maybe not any more than that, 'cause I'm not gonna get too ambitious here.

[But the kiss is certainly appreciated, and though there's a noise of disappointment when the hunter finally pulls away and gets himself together, he did say that he'd take care of things, and so he pushes himself up, stretching to try to work out a slight twinge in his shoulder.

Right, sheets. Sheets and disposing of things and cleaning and- well, the quicker he gets started, the quicker he can be on to better things.

It doesn't take too terribly long, and as soon as he's cleaned himself up sufficently, he's wandering down the stairs, trying to figure out where James had wandered off to. Not that he's going to bother the man if he's decided to be busy, but there's still that sense of needing to at least be somewhere near the man.]

[He's situated himself at the back coach still, going over new scout reports that had worked their way onto his data pads in order for him to give them a look over before then relating his thoughts over to the other vanguard. Yea he's pretty certain that he should be taking a breaking right now from all of this especially after the express trip to stressed out that it had placed him in along with the titan's disappearance off of comms. Still it needed to be done sooner rather than later if only out of habit.

He notices the wandering footsteps but doesn't say nothing because yea he was doing work and more likely than not Liam was not going to approve of that during his vacation. Especially after the engagement the other day. Both of them were supposed to be relaxing together and doing minimum work.

Definitely at the very least going to get some grumbling. But at least tonight would be in a clean bed though.]

[Was that noise? Movement? Really, it shouldn't be so hard to track a hunter down. Then again, he's looking for the top of the top, so it shouldn't really surprise him. Still, he's always been amazed by James' ability to make himself disappear, literally and metaphorically.

The back though, he really should have thought of that in the first place. After all, it seemed to be the place his fiancee liked to retreat to, given the chance, and as he pokes his head around the corner he furrows his brows at the sight.]

Already so excited to get back to the not-so-fun grind?

[He's definitely teasing, and he lets it show in his tone and the way he makes his way over and flops dramatically onto the couch beside the other man, head resting in James' lap and one arm thrown over his eyes. Definitely still demanding attention, as always.]

[A Venusian report is given a brief once over before he turns his head at the voice and taking note of the slight disapproval, having been correct in Liam not particularly being fond of what he was up to. Though now the back wasn't so dull but would be less productive.]

You told me to go do something while you took care of upstairs. I was merely following your suggestion.

[Soon enough there's a titan in his lap and he lets out a soft sigh accompanied by a smirk. Damn idiot was wanting attention with that overdramatic display so he starts to card his fingers through Liam's hair as he goes back to reading.]

Going to be a distraction now?

Mmmm, I mean, I guess you're kind of right on that.

[But there's a content noise offered at the touches, even as he moves to place himself more firmly in the hunter's lap. Definitely too much attention being given to the reports.]
